About
Eileen Powell creates sculptures that incorporate ceramics, glass, and other media to convey ecological and environmental themes. Specifically her work seeks to create a visual statement regarding the importance nature has to our quality of life. Eileen earned a BS in ceramic sculpture from Southern Connecticut State University and MFA from Clemson University. Her work is featured at across the US including Wake Forest University and Aloft Hotel in Greenville, SC and has been shown in galleries and exhibitions across the U.S. including solo exhibitions at the University of New Haven. She was artist in residence at Everglades National Park in 2012. She has taught at Clemson University, Clemson Art Center, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Eileen draws inspiration from the natural world and her extensive travels. Prior to returning to school, Eileen guided whitewater and sea kayak trips around the world including Galapagos, Costa Rica, Greece, Turkey, France, Italy, the Caribbean, Everglades, and the Grand Canyon. She is also a former US Canoe and Kayak Team Member (1986-1992) and alternate for the ‘92 Olympics.
